MADHURAM JEEVITHAM
NON- COMMUNICABLE DISEASE COMPLICATIONS SCREENING
Mobile AI-powered NCD Screening for Older Adults in Kerala
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) pose a significant threat to the well-being of Kerala's aging population. Studies like the LASI survey reveal a high prevalence of hypertension (65%) and diabetes (35%) among elders. These NCDs and their complications lead to a decrease in quality of life and reduced healthy life expectancy. Early detection of NCD complications in primary healthcare settings is crucial for preventing a public health crisis.

MATHURAM JEEVITHAM
Madhuram Jeevitham project aims to strengthen primary healthcare for older adults in Kerala by promoting early detection of NCD complications through a mobile AI-powered screening program.
Target Population
Individuals above 60 years residing in Kerala, with a focus on underserved communities.
Technology and Methodology
Utilize a portable, high-tech device equipped with AI algorithms to screen for:
Diabetic retinopathy
Glaucoma
Peripheral vascular disease
Peripheral and autonomic neuropathy
The device will require minimal infrastructure and training for operation.
A mobile unit with two technicians will travel to various Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in a designated area.
The unit will conduct screenings for a month at each PHC before moving on to the next, ensuring continuous coverage.
Expected Outcomes
Increased early detection of NCD complications among older adults.
Improved access to timely interventions and treatment, resulting in better health outcomes.
Reduced burden of NCDs on the healthcare system.
A replicable model for strengthening primary healthcare across Kerala.
The mobile AI-powered NCD screening program offers a promising solution to address the rising burden of NCDs among Kerala's aging population. By facilitating early detection and intervention, the project can significantly improve the quality of life for older adults and contribute to a healthier future for the state.
